Making the audience want to tap their feet is one thing but mesmerizing them is another. Trilok Gurtu performance and interaction with the crowd kept them enthralled. People of all ages were see at the virtuoso's performance in Bangalore. Fans of all ages were seen at the concert and the youngest being age five, which coincidentally, is also the age Trilok started playing the tabla.
The percussionist can drum his way from a steel bucket of water to a wooden box and what he creates is magical. "Music is magical and I am just a vehicle, who brings music to my audience," says Trilok. Humility is the word which comes to mind when Trilok says, "I don't even remember that I won a Grammy award."
Trilok, who has been in the profession for the past 45 years, talks about how the industry has changed. "These days music is a commercial medium, it is all about fame and becoming big in the industry," says Trilok.
Although, he believes that ones work speaks for them. "When Indian artists make a mark for themselves here, automatically they are called to perform abroad orpeople will come here to see you perform," he adds.
The world class musician is not too happy how the media portrays music.
" Media spins the audience because of this he level of audience is very precarious, they can't differentiate between good or bad," says Trilok.
He says that the audience level has dropped. "Since I am a musician I adapt to different kind of audiences but I shouldn't be held responsible if the level of the listeners has gone down." he adds.
